Friday Evening Events 2007-08

Fall 2007- in lieu of a retreat the committee has decided to sponsor Friday evening sessions with dinner included.  The first of these occurred on Nov. 16, 4-7pm.

Theme: Student Success Initiative and Faculty Roles Speaker: Peggy Carpenter, Dir. of Student Success Center

A survey was distributed to faculty/administrators at the Oct. 22 faculty/administrator meeting.  Click here to view results of these survey.

The survey was based on Bill Millard's Stage Appropriate Life Calling Developmental Model.  Bill Millard is Director of Indiana Wesleyan's Center for Life Calling and Leadership.  Click here to view the model.

Feb. 9-10

Trevecca Faculty Development Retreat at Scarritt Bennett Retreat Center, Nashville.

Theme: Generational changes: implications for teaching and professional practice.

Retreat speaker: Dr. Deborah Nunn Baruzzini

Deborah Nunn Baruzzini has served as Adjunct Professor of Education for Trevecca Nazarene University since 2004, teaching in the M.Ed. and M.A.T. programs.  She also serves as a reader on several doctoral dissertation committees.  As Director of Organizational Development at Belmont University, she is responsible for planning and organizing training and development initiatives for faculty and staff.  

Dr. Nunn holds a B.A. in Management and Human Relations from Trevecca University and her M.Ed. focused on Higher Education Leadership from Middle Tennessee State University.  She earned her Doctorate in Education from Trevecca University with a research concentration on “The Impact of Generational Differences Awareness on Delivery of University Services and Programs.”

PAST RETREATS

February 3-4, 2006
Trevecca Faculty Development Retreat at Scarritt Bennett Retreat Center, Nashville.

3rd annual faculty development retreat: "Academic Vocation: A Christian Community of Scholars." Retreat speaker, Dr. Susan Gallagher is the director of the Center for Scholarship and Faculty Development and a professor of English at Seattle Pacific University. She has been a scholar and educator for more than 20 years, authoring numerous publications. She also lectures widely on Christian higher education and scholarship.

The book for the 06 retreat was Faithful Learning and the Christian Scholarly Vocation by Douglas V. Henry and Bob R. Agee (Eds) (2003) Eerdmans.

February 11-12, 2005
Trevecca Faculty Development Retreat at Scarritt Bennett Retreat Center, Nashville.

 2nd annual Faculty Development Retreat “Integrating your faith from a Wesleyan perspective into the classroom”

Retreat speaker, Dr. Brad Strawn is Associate Professor of Psychology at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego where he teaches clinical psychology and is a licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice. Dr. Brad D. Strawn earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Graduate School of Psychology, at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA where he also obtained a Masters degree in Theology.

An area of expertise for Dr. Strawn is the integration of psychology and Christian faith. Dr. Strawn has been published in professional journals and frequently presents original research at national conferences. He is a charter member and past president of the Society for the Study of Psychology and Wesleyan Theology.

Trevecca Faculty Development Retreat at Scarritt Bennett Retreat Center, Nashville.


The faculty development committee hosted the first faculty development retreat this year. With the theme of "Crossing Boundaries in Scholarship," the aim of the retreat was to identify ways to collaborate across disciplines in an effort to enhance and advance scholarship at Trevecca. The special speaker was Maxine Walker from Point Loma Nazarene University. Dr. Walker is the director of the highly successful  Wesleyan Center  for 21st Century Studies at
http://www.ptloma.edu/wesleyan/ and is a respected scholar in her field.
