Some
Mini-grant recipient comments and reports for the 05-06 academic year.
Regarding the Faculty Development grant that I received:
- I attended
the 63rd Annual International Conference of the American
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
- I attended
due to my involvement with the graduate program in Marriage and Family
Therapy (MMFT) at Trevecca and my desire for the program to stay in step
with national developments in the field. Changes in the Tennessee licensure
requirements and the results of a national assessment regarding “teaching
competencies” and program cohesion both suggested the need for a little
scrutiny. Based on my own assessment of the MMFT training program, I
had planned to make some curriculum changes but wanted to see if these
changes were “in sinc” with what was occurring
nationally. So, the conference was both for acquisition of
information and confirmation.
- Content was
helpful and confirming. As a result of attending the conference,
adjustments in the MMFT program were made in the spring and are being
implemented this fall. So, it was a productive time.

NAME OF
CONFERENCE: Association for Technology
in Music Instruction
REASON FOR
ATTENDING: To be made aware of the
latest technology developed for teaching all areas of music in college classes
BENEFITS TO
TEACHING: I brought back several new
programs to purchase which will assist in the area of technology development
class (MUS 2000) and a review of the latest in computer development (for the
Mac Lab). The discussions with follow
technology teachers were quite valuable.

Ruth Kinnersley and Judy Bivens presented at
the Tennessee and South Eastern Library
Association Meeting, April 6, 2006, in Memphis.
Our topic was Student Assistants in the Library. Attendance at our
session was exceptional with close to 50 attendees crowding the room. Our
presentation focused on team building, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, leadership
styles, and personality styles. We were careful to align this with our mission
statement at Trevecca to prepare for service and leadership. We included many
snapshots of events here at Waggoner Library involving our students.
There was lively discussion among the participants regarding issues
with student workers in a variety of library settings. Sharing of ideas
and strategies among participants resulted in a collective catalog of ideas for
better training and leading student workers in the library setting. This
presentation and the concepts generated from the discussion will be included in
our MLIS classes as we teach management and leadership strategies for library
information specialists.
